A unique identity for five churches

Pulcherrima Catania

Pulcherrima, Latin for “most beautiful”, is the name chosen for a cultural itinerary bringing together five of Catania’s most important Baroque churches. The name itself captures the guiding principles behind the project’s visual identity: to build a coherent system that conveys the beauty of these places without overshadowing their spiritual character.

The brand mark takes the form of a circular seal, with a capital “P” set against a red background and enclosed within an ornamental frame inspired by the visual tradition of sacred art. It is paired with the name written in a serif typeface. A palette of red and gold on white runs throughout the whole visual identity, ensuring consistency across all its applications.

Each of the five churches is represented by its own circular medallion, featuring a religious motif that reflects the distinctive devotional character of the site.

Each medallion, therefore, expresses the individual identity and sacred character of its church, while remaining clearly recognisable as part of a coherent visual system.

The website translates this visual system into the digital environment

adapting it to the specific requirements of the web without compromising the coherence of the overall identity. The red-and-gold palette has been carefully adjusted to ensure strong readability and sufficient contrast on screen — an essential aspect of accessibility for users of different ages and varying levels of confidence with digital technology.

From the website to the physical materials displayed within the churches, Pulcherrima’s visual identity creates a consistent and recognisable experience at every point of contact with visitors.
